CARY LAUNDRY ROOM RENOVATION

This 20 year old laundry room was in dire need of updating and improvements to its functionality.   The original plastic sink tub was outdated, lacked any counter space and showed the unattractive plumbing.  The washer and dryer were failing and rusting with no counter space for folding clothes.  On a positive note, the floor tile, while not the most current, is neutral and in good condition and the built in shelving above the washer and dryer and top left could be restored.

The design goal was to create a stylish, pretty space, incorporating lots of functionality—yet on a very low budget. Due to sink piping placement and window dimension issues, the sink area needed to be deeper and lower than a standard cabinet would allow.  This created an opportunity for some creative, low cost solutions, such as a floating sink with a beautifully shaped wood apron and skirt, allowing accessibility to piping and a possible future new floor installation. This was a quarter of the cost of installing a wood cabinet and added functionality, texture and color.  The savings allowed for a large, deep quality stainless undermounted sink and faucet and a stone countertop.  Existing open shelving was reused and repainted; and the current outdated washer and dryer was replaced with new front loading models topped with a removable wood countertop folding station.  A pull out unit was installed to provide easy storage access.
